The authors say: If one looks at singular Sturm-Liouville problems or higher-dimensional analogs of the Fourier series, then new phenomena occur which are beyond the classical theory of Fourier series. We were led to consider these from the Fourier-Bessel series plots found through the symbolic processor Mathematica. And they prove: The \(p\)-dimensional Fourier-Bessel expansion of function 1 at \(r=0\) diverges in every dimension \(p\geq 3\) in the same fashion as the series \(\sum^ \infty_{n=1} (-1)^{n+1} n^{(p-3)/2}\). A result corresponding to the above is valid for the \(p\)-dimensional Fourier series of the indicator function of a ball.
