Let \(S\) denote the closed subset of the Bers-Nehari Banach space consisting of the Schwarzians of univalent functions on the unit disc, \(\Delta\). The subset \(J\) of \(S\) corresponds to those schlicht functions mapping \(\Delta\) onto a Jordan region, and the Teichmüller space \(T\) is the further subset comprising those for which that region is a quasidisc. It is well known that \(S-\overline T\) is nonempty (Gehring), and also that \(J-\overline T\) is nonempty (Flinn). Suppose \(G\) is a Fuchsian group of the second kind operating within the disc. Consider the Bers-Nehari Banach subspace \(B_ 2(\Delta,G)\) comprising bounded quadratic differentials for \(G\). Let \(S(G)\), \(J(G)\) and \(T(G)\) denote respectively the intersections of \(S\), \(J\) and \(T\) with \(B_ 2(\Delta,G)\), the author shows that the corresponding statements are true at the \(G\)-invariant level also. In particular, the closure of \(T(G)\) is not the whole of \(S(G)\). The situation for \(G\) of the first kind remains unknown. The method of proof is to construct \(G\)-invariant domains with adequately irregular boundary starting from the constructions of Gehring and Flinn.
