    We study the equation \[ L(u)=- a^{ij} (x) u_{,ij}+ b^ k(x) u_{,k}= f(x,u), \tag{1} \] where \(x\in\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^ n\), \(a^{ij}(x)\xi_ i \xi_ j\geq 0\) for any \(\xi= (\xi_ 1,\dots, \xi_ n)\in \mathbb{R}^ n\) and \(f\) is a simple type of nonlinearity which can occur in elliptic-parabolic equations. We assume that \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^ n\) is a bounded piecewise smooth domain. Let \(\Sigma\) denote the boundary of \(\Omega\). We divide \(\Sigma\) into three parts: \(\Sigma_ 3=\) the set of noncharacteristic boundary points, i.e., those where \(a^{ij}(x)n_ i n_ j>0\) and \(n=(n_ 1, \dots, n_ n)\) is the inward normal vector; \(\Sigma_ 2=\)the set of points in \(\Sigma\setminus \Sigma_ 3\) where \((b^ i+ a_{,i}^{ij})n_ i>0\); \(\Sigma_ 1 = \Sigma \setminus \Sigma_ 2 \setminus \Sigma_ 3\). We prescribe boundary conditions only on \(\Sigma_ 2\cup \Sigma_ 3\), i.e., (2) \(u=g\) on \(\Sigma_ 2\cup \Sigma_ 3\), and prove existence of \(L^ \infty\) solutions to (1)--(2). Our modified approach uses both elliptical regularization and monotonicity properties of \(L\) (based on minimum, maximum principles), which allow us to construct a monotone iteration scheme.
