Let \(X\) be a (real or complex) infinite dimensional Banach space. A standard operator algebra is any subalgebra of the algebra \(B(X)\) of all bounded linear operators on \(X\) which contains all bounded finite rank operators. The author shows that every ring derivation \(D : {\mathcal A} \to B(X)\) is of the form \(D(A) = TA - AT\) for some \(T \in B(X)\), where \({\mathcal A}\) is a standard operator algebra.
