For a Banach space \(X\) the relationship of the quantity \(\gamma(X)=\sup {{\beta(A)}\over {\alpha(A)}}\), \(A\) running over the class of bounded nonprecompact subsets of \(X\), and \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\) being the set and ball measures of noncompactness, with several constants concerning the normal structure is studied.
