Let \(\{f_ n\}\) be a sequence of functions with common domain \(\Omega\) and values in an Abelian topological group \(G\), and suppose that \(\Omega\) has a point \(\omega_ 0\) such that \(f_ n(\omega_ 0)=0\) for all \(n\). The authors show that if the series \(\sum f_ n(\omega_ n)\) converges for every sequence \(\{\omega_ n\}\) in \(\Omega\) then it converges uniformly with respect to all such sequences. Various results about convergence of series in topological vector spaces are deduced. The main theorem states that each of nine conditions on a sequentially complete locally convex space \(X\) is equivalent to the condition that \(X\) contains no copy of the Banach space \(c_ 0\). Examples are given of spaces that satisfy these conditions.
