Let \(\Omega\) be a bounded set in a metric space \(M\). Denote \(\alpha(\Omega)=\inf\{d>0:\Omega\text{ can be covered by a finite number of sets of diameter at most }d\},\) \(\beta(\Omega)=\inf\{d>0:\Omega\text{ has a finite } d\text{-net in }M\},\) \(\delta(\Omega)=\sup\{\alpha(\Omega'):\Omega'\subseteq\Omega\text{ and } \Omega'\text{ is an } \alpha\text{-minimal subset of }\Omega\}\) (an infinite bounded set \(A\) is called \(\alpha\)-minimal if for any infinite subset \(B\) of \(A\), \(\alpha(A)=\alpha(B))\), \[ D(X)=\sup\{\limsup_{n\to\infty}d(x_{n+1},\text{conv}\{x_ j\}^ n_{j=1})/ \text{diam}\{x_ j\}:\{x_ j\}\subseteq X\text{ is bounded, nonconstant}\}. \] In the present paper the author proves the following theorem: Let \(X\) be an infinite-dimensional reflexive Banach space; then for any bounded subset \(\Omega\) of \(X\), \(\beta(\Omega)\leq 2\cdot D(X)\cdot\delta(\Omega)\). Recall that an operator \(f:\text{dom}(f)\to X\) \((\text{dom}(f)\subseteq X)\) is said to be a \(k\)-set-contraction if it is continuous and there is \(k>0\) such that \(\alpha(f(\Omega))\leq k\cdot\alpha(\Omega)\) for all bounded subsets \(\Omega\) of \(\text{dom}(f)\). Analogously, \(k-\beta\)- contractions and \(k-\delta\)-contractions can be defined. Let \(\alpha(f)=\inf\{k>0:\) \(f\) is \(k\)-set-contraction\}, and define \(\beta(f)\) and \(\delta(f)\) similarly. Among the results proved is the following theorem: In an infinite-dimensional reflexive Banach space \(X\), \[ \beta(f)\leq D(X)\cdot\delta(U)\cdot\delta(f)\leq D(X)\cdot\delta(U)\cdot\alpha(f)\text{ and } \delta(f)\leq\alpha(f)\leq 2\cdot D(X)\cdot\beta(f), \] where \(U\) is the closed unit ball of \(X\).
