The paper presents numerical solutions to a generalization of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation by means of a method of variational imbedding. The equation to be solved is of the form \[ u_ t+ \gamma u^ 2_ x+ \delta(u u_ x)_ x+ u_{xx}+ u_{xxxx}=0, \] where \(\gamma\) and \(\delta\) are constants. In fact, this equation arises in the Bénard convection driven by interfacial stresses (Marangoni effect). The convergence of the solution obtained using a finite-difference scheme with different mesh sizes is studied for both the cases of \(\delta<0\) and \(\delta>0\), respectively. It is shown that the positive and negative values of \(\delta\) have different physical meaning. Namely, when \(\delta<0\), the wavy forerunner gradually disappears while for \(\delta>0\), the solitary wave becomes swifter. The reviewer found this to be a clearly written paper and believes that it will be of interest to those engaged in computational fluid dynamic investigations of a similar kind.
