A note on derivations in semiprime rings. (Q2368456)

Let \(R\) be a ring and let \(D\colon R\to R\) be an additive map satisfying \(D(x^n)=\sum_{j=1}^nx^{n-j}D(x)x^{j-1}\) for all \(x\in R\) and some fixed \(n>1\). If \(R\) is semiprime, \(n!\)-torsionfree and has an identity element, then the authors prove that \(D\) is derivation. A similar result in prime rings was obtained earlier by \textit{D. Bridges} and \textit{J. Bergen} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 90, 25-29 (1984; Zbl 0528.16021)].
