Bilateral shorted operators and parallel sums (Q2369056)

The authors discuss some properties of bilateral shorted operators. In particular, they obtain relations among bilateral shorted operators, weakly complemented operators, and the parallel sum between two operators. Some of the results were already shown by other authors in special settings, for example, in the cases of finite-dimensional spaces, positive matrices, or self-adjoint matrices. In the present paper, the authors consider suitable definitions for the case of infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and prove some results in this general setting.
