A nontrivial probability measure \(\sigma\) on the unit circle \(T\) is said to belong to a polynomial Szegő class if \(\sigma=\sigma'dm+\sigma_s\) with \[ \int_T \sigma'(t)p(t)\,dm>-\infty, \qquad p(t)=\prod_{k=1}^N | t-\zeta_k| ^{2\kappa_k}, \] \(\zeta_k\in T\), \(\kappa_k>0\). The main result of the paper under review is a counterpart of the celebrated Szegő theorem about the asymptotic behavior of the orthonormal polynomials \(\phi_n\) from the standard Szegő class, inside the unit disk and in \(L^2\) on the unit circle. The main point is to find a right analog for the Szegő function in this new class of measures. As a corollary, the authors obtain the existence of certain modified wave operators.
