Every non-trivial positive measure \(\mu\) on the unit disk generates a sequence of Verblunsky coefficients \(\{\alpha _n\}\), either via the Szegő recurrence for corresponding orthogonal polynomials or by means of the Schur algorithm. If \(\alpha _n \to \alpha\), with \(| \alpha| \in (0,1)\), then it is known that the support of \(\mu\) is a real-symmetric closed arc (essential spectrum) plus eventually a numerable set of mass points, clustering at the endpoints of the arc. The goal of this paper is to provide explicit inequalities (i) bounding from above the distance of the mass points to the extreme points of the arc in terms of the \(\ell_p\) norm (\(p\geq 1/2\)) of \(\{ \alpha _n-\alpha \}\), and (ii) bounding from above the number of mass points of \(\mu\) away from the essential spectrum in terms of the \(\ell_1\) norm of \(\{n( \alpha _n-\alpha) \}\). The approach is quite elegant: a Jacobi-type model is built relating five- and three-diagonal matrices, which applied to the symmetrized CMV matrix allows the author to reduce the situation to the case of the real line, where the result was already known.
