The paper under review deals with local versions of the well-known conjecture of \textit{R.~Hartshorne} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 80, 1017--1032 (1974; Zbl 0304.14005)]. The main theorem is the following: Let \(R\) be a regular local ring of dimension \(n\geq 5\) and let \(\mathfrak{P}\) be a prime ideal of height 2. Let \((V,\mathcal{O}_v)\) be the punctured spectrum of the ring \(R/\mathfrak{P}\). If the ring \(\Gamma(V,\mathcal{O}_V)\) is Gorenstein, then \(R/\mathfrak{P}\) is a complete intersection. One of the ingredients for the proof is the modified local version of a result of the reviewer jointly with \textit{C.~Peterson} and \textit{A.~P.~Rao} [Manuscr. Math. 112, No. 2, 183--189 (2003; Zbl 1030.14008)], on certain criteria for splitting of vector bundles on projective spaces.
