Let \(p\) be a prime, and let \(B\) be a \(p\)-block of a finite group \(G\) with defect group \(D\). Brauer conjectured that \(k(B)\leq|D|\) where \(k(B)\) denotes the number of irreducible characters in \(B\), and Olsson conjectured that \(k_0(B)\leq|D:D'|\) where \(k_0(B)\) denotes the number of irreducible characters of height zero in \(B\). In the paper under review, the author is concerned with the special case where \(D\) is extraspecial of order \(p^3\) and exponent \(p\). He verifies the conjectures of Brauer and Olssson under certain additional hypotheses. (In an earlier paper [J. Algebra 291, No. 2, 457-491 (2005; Zbl 1083.20008)], the author had considered the case where \(D\) is extraspecial of order \(p^3\) and exponent \(p^2\).)
