In the present paper, the author studies an upper bound of the cohomological dimension of ideals in a regular local ring. Let \(R\) be a \(d\)-dimensional regular local ring with maximal ideal \(\mathfrak m\), \(I \subset R\) an ideal and \(\mathfrak p_1\), \dots, \(\mathfrak p_n\) the minimal primes of \(R/I\). If \(R\) contains a field, the residue field \(R/\mathfrak m\) is separably closed and \(\text{ht} (\mathfrak p_1)\), \dots, \(\text{ht} (\mathfrak p_n) \leq c\), then \textit{G. Faltings} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 313, 43--51 (1980; Zbl 0411.13010)] showed that the cohomological dimension of \(I\) in \(R\) is at most \(v' = d - \lfloor (d-1)/c \rfloor\). This upper bound is sharp for any \(d\) and \(c\). However, it is often that the cohomological dimension is less than \(v'\) if \(c \nmid (d-1)\) and \(c < d\). In this paper, the author explicitly computed \(H_I^{v'}(R)\) by using the simplicial complex \(\Delta = \{\{i_0, \dots, i_s\} \mid \mathfrak m \not\subset \sqrt{\mathfrak p_{i_0} + \dots + \mathfrak p_{i_s}}\}\) with \(n\) vertices.
