The paper is concerned with existence of positive solutions (in the distributional sense) of the following parabolic problem \[ u_t=\Delta u-u\varphi(\cdot,u) \text{ in } \mathbb{R}^n\times (0,\infty),\quad u(x,0)=u_0(x) \text{ in }\mathbb{R}^n (n\geq 3).\eqno(1) \] Under some suitable conditions on \(\varphi\) and \(u_0\) related to the Kato parabolic class \(P^\infty(\mathbb{R}^n)\) it is proved that (1) has a positive continuous solution \(u\) such that for all \((x,t)\in \mathbb{R}^n\times (0,\infty)\) there holds \[ c\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} G(x,t,y,0)u_0(y)dy\leq u(x,t)\leq \int_{\mathbb{R}^n}G(x,t,y,0)u_0(y)dy, \] where \(G\) is the fundamental solution of of the heat equation \(u_t=\Delta u\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\times (0,\infty)\). The approach is based on deep potential theory arguments.
