This paper concerns with the biometrical task to identify a person using the geometry of the person's fingers. A grey scale picture of the hand is taken and separated into images of the palm and the fingers. The images are shifted and aligned to the major axes to allow a comparison using a phase matching standard technology. The system was tested with 120 hand images coming from 40 people. Because the different steps of image processing are carefully optimized, an accuracy rate of 95 percent is achieved.
