Let \(G\) be a finitely generated \(2\)-solvable rational nilpotent group. The authors show that \(G\) is realizable, in that there is a \(1\)-connected rational space \(X\) for which \({\mathcal E_{\# }}(X)\cong G,\) where \({\mathcal E_{\# }}(X)\) is the group of those homotopy self-equivalence classes of \(X\) which induce the identity automorphism on the homotopy groups. Partial results had previously been given by a number of authors.
