For an integer \(m\) and a positive integer \(n\) a regular continued fraction is given by \(m/n=[a_0;a_1,\dots,a_{l-1}]\) with \(a_{l-1}\geq 2\). Define the length of the expansion and the sum of its digits by \(\lambda(m,n)=l\) and \(\sigma(m,n)=a_0+a_1+\dots+a_{l-1}\), respectively. It is well-known that the Fibonacci numbers have a maximum property with respect to \(\lambda(m,n)\), but it is scarcely know that they also have a minimum property relative to \(\sigma(m,n)\). The author discusses both properties and their interrelation in this paper.
