The authors consider the following control system for a periodically forced oscillator: \[ x''+bx'+ \frac{dV(x)}{dx} = a\cos(\omega t) +u(t), \] where \(b>0\), \(V(x)\) is a periodic asymmetric (non-harmonic) potential, \(u(t)\) is the control force, which is to be chosen in order to stabilize any prescribed motion \(x_d(t)\) of the system. The main idea behind this procedure of choosing \(u(t)\) is simple: let \[ u(t)=-a\cos(\omega t)+\frac{dV(x)}{dx}+ \xi(t), \] where \(\xi(t)\) is chosen from the linear problem.
