Boundary value problems for symmetric hyperbolic systems are studied in space dimension \( n \). The purpose is the study of semilinear systems. Hence the symmetric hyperbolic systems are perturbed with a (uniformly) small second order uniformly elliptic term. One can then write an expansion of the solution with respect to the perturbation parameter -- using the WKB method and geometrical optics, and study its existence, stability and life span. This is done in the present paper. The paper contains a host of results that it is impossible to summarize here.
