Dedekind sums are of central importance in number theory as a result of their appearance in functional equations of modular forms (like the classical Dedekind eta function) and automorphic forms. Their role in topology and algebraic geometry has been realized as a consequence of the seminal works of M. Atiyah, I. Singer and F. Hirzebruch. Multivariable versions of the classical Dedekind sum were also studied in the literature by L. Carlitz, B. C. Berndt and D. Zagier. In the present paper, building on the works of A. Bayad, S. Egami and D. Zagier, the author obtains further generalizations of the so called ``reciprocity law'' satisfied by multivariable cotangent sums. This is accomplished by the explicit calculation of carefully chosen limits of the multivariable cotangent sum evaluated at d-division points. Besides the main argument a survey of the recent results of A. Bayad and S. Egami about the reciprocity law for certain Dedekind type sums involving values of Jacobi forms, which are generalizations of the classical theta functions, is given. The paper is a valuable contribution to the existing literature on Dedekind sums.
