Let \(G\) be a finitely generated infinite group and \(p\) be a real number greater than one. In the paper under review the vanishing and nonvanishing of the first \(L^p\)-cohomology space \(\overline{H}_{(p)}(G)\) of the group \(G\) is studied. The main result reads as follows. Let \(G\) act properly discontinuously on a complete, simply connected \(n\)-dimensional Riemannian manifold \(M_n\) with all sectional curvatures bounded above by a negative constant. Assume that the action is cocompact and free, and moreover that the manifold is rotationally symmetric, i.e. for a fixed point \(x\) on \(M_n\) metric spheres centered at \(x\) are submanifolds of constant curvature. Then \(\overline{H}_{(p)}(G)=0\) if \(1<p\leq n-1\). The connection of \(\overline{H}_{(p)}(G)\) with the Floyd boundary of the Cayley graph of the group is considered.
