    The authors study the large time asymptotics of solutions to the Cauchy problem for the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers equation \[ \partial _t (u - u_{xx} ) - \mu u_{xx} + \beta u_{xxx} + uu_x = 0, \quad x \in \mathbb R, \quad t > 0, \] \(\mu > 0, \quad \beta \in \mathbb R; \quad u(0,x) = u_0 (x).\) The main result is as follows: Let the initial data \(u_0 \in H^1(\mathbb{R}) \cap W_1^1 (\mathbb{R})\), and \(\theta=\int_{\mathbb R}u_0(x)\,dx\neq 0\). Then there exists a unique solution \(u(t,x)\in C([0,\infty);H^1(\mathbb{R})\cap W_1^1(\mathbb{R}))\) to the BBM-Burgers equation, with the asymptotics \[ u(t)=t^{-1/2}f_\theta\left( (\cdot)t^{-1/2} \right)+o\left( t^{-1/2}\right) \] as \(t\to\infty\) uniformly with respect to \(x\in\mathbb{R}\), where \[ f_\theta(\chi)=-2\sqrt{\mu}\partial_\chi\log\left[ \cosh\frac{\theta}{4}-\sinh\frac{\theta}{4}Erf\left(\frac{\chi}{2\sqrt{\mu}} \right) \right]. \] Moreover, if \(u_0\in L^{1,1}(\mathbb{R})\), then \[ u(t)=t^{-1/2}f_\theta\left( (\cdot)t^{-1/2} \right)+O\left( t^{-1/2-\gamma}\right) \] is true. Then, the second term of the large time asymptotic behavior is obtained.
