Boundary stabilization of solutions of a nonlinear system of Timoshenko type (Q2373844)

The paper is devoted to a multidimensional Timoshenko system with boundary conditions of memory type. The main attention is paid to investigating the asymptotic behavior of solutions of this system. Namely, the authors examine whether the dissipation induced by the boundary conditions of the memory effect is strong enough to stabilize the system and what type of decay rate can be obtained. In the beginning, the authors adduce in detail known results in uniform stabilization of different Timoshenko-type systems. Then they discuss issues related to existence, uniqueness and regularity of a weak solution to the considered system. The main result of the paper consists in substantiation of sufficient conditions providing exponential and polynomial decay rates. While so doing, the authors use some relations between the first-order energy of the considered system and of some special Lyapunov-type function.
