    This research monograph presents up-to-date research developments in the field of semi-Markov jump systems which, compared with the classical Markov-jump systems are characterized by a fixed matrix of transition probabilities and a matrix of sojourn time probability density functions. The book starts with the introductory chapter 1 which presents the basic concepts for the analysis and control of semi-Markov jump systems. After a brief mathematical exposure of the basic concepts, it is presented the literature review of S-MJSs. Then, it is organized in three parts. Part 1 contains chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 and is focused on stability analysis and control. Chapter 2 deals with the stochastic stability for a class of S-MJSs with some variant delays and proposes some sufficient conditions to guarantee the stochastic stability (Lyapunov-Krasovskii function or piecewise analysis method). Chapter 3 studies the constrained regulation problem for a class of singular S-MJSs. It is presented the transformation of a finite PH semi-Markov process into a finite Markov chain, called its associated Markov chain using a supplementary variable technique. The authors developed an algorithm for constructing a state feedback control low guaranteeing that the result closed-loop system is admissible with a positively invariant set and show its effectiveness by simulation technique. Chapter 4 investigates the state estimation and sliding mode control problems for S-MJSs with mismatched uncertainties. A sliding surface is then constructed and a sliding mode controller is synthesized to ensure that the S-MJSs satisfy the reaching condition. Chapter 5 considers the quantized output feedback control problem for a class of S-MJSs with repeated scalar nonlinearities. A sufficient condition for S-MJS is developed and it guarantees that the corresponding close-loop systems are stochastically stable and have a prescribed \(H^\infty\) performance. Part II put the emphasis on fault detection and filtering of S-MJS Part 2 contains chapters 6, 7, 8, 9 and is mainly concerned with fault detection and filtering of S-SMSs. Chapter 6 is concerned with the problem of exponential passive filtering for a class of stochastic neutral-type neural networks with both semi-Markovian jump parameters and mixed time delay. Sufficient conditions for existence of passive filters are obtained and is employed a cone complementarity linearization procedure to transform a nonconvex feasibility problem into a sequential minimization problem. Chapter 7 considers the fault detection problem for a class of S-MJSs with known sojourn probability. An event-driven control strategy is developed to reduce the frequency of transmission, and sufficient conditions for sojourn probability dependent jumped systems are presented. It is designed a fault detection filter such that the corresponding filtering error system is stochastically stable and has a prescribed performance. Chapter 8 investigates the problem of fault detection filtering for S-MJSs by a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy approach. The designed fuzzy model-based fault detection filter can guarantee the sensitivity of the residual signal to faults and the robustness of the external disturbances. Chapter 9 is concerned with the fault detection filtering problem for under-actuated manipulators based on the Markovian jump model. The existence conditions for a fault detection filter are proposed through the stochastic analysis technique and a new fault detection filter algorithm is employed to design the desired filter gains. In addition, the cone complementarity linearization procedure is employed to cast the filter design into a sequential minimization problem. In Part 3 (chapter 10) the authors summarize the results of the book and propose some related topics for the future research work. The book is addressed to graduate and postgraduate students as well as researchers in the field of semi-Markovian jump systems. It requires an elementary knowledge on mathematics, matrix theory, probability, optimization techniques, and control and system theory.
