The authors study sufficient conditions for the topological triviality of one parameter unfoldings \(F: (\mathbb R^3 \times \mathbb R,0) \to (\mathbb R^3 \times \mathbb R,0)\) of a finitely determined map-germ \(f: (\mathbb R^3,0) \to (\mathbb R^3,0)\) with regular singular set \(S(f).\) The main result is that \(F\) is topologically trivial if it is excellent in the sense of \textit{T. Gaffney} [Topology 32, No. 1, 185--223 (1993; Zbl 0790.57020)], and the family \(C(F)\cup D(F)\) of double point curves and cuspidal edges is a topologically trivial unfolding of \(C(f)\cup D(f).\)
