The authors investigate the uniqueness of meromorphic functions in a special multiply connected region. They study the uniqueness of meromorphic functions in the \(m\)-punctured plane sharing two and three sets with finite elements IM (ignoring multiplicities). The results obtained are an extension of the works on the annulus by \textit{T.-B. Cao} et al. [Comput. Math. Appl. 58, No. 7, 1457--1465 (2009; Zbl 1189.30065), \textit{T.-B. Cao} and \textit{Z.-S. Deng} [Proc. Indian Acad. Sci., Math. Sci. 122, No. 2, 203--220 (2012; Zbl 1269.30036)] and \textit{H.-Y. Xu} and \textit{Z.-X. Xuan} [Abstr. Appl. Anal. 2012, Article ID 896596 (2012; Zbl 1254.30028)]. An important ingredient in the proofs is the Nevanlinna value distribution theory for meromorphic functions in the \(m\)-punctured complex plane introduced by \textit{M. O. Hanyak} and \textit{A. A. Kondratyuk} [Mat. Stud. 27, No. 1, 53--69 (2007; Zbl 1152.30027)].
