The paper under review deals with minimal surfaces in the three-dimensional hyperbolic space \(H^3\). The main attention is paid to the asymptotic Plateau problem which asks for a minimal surface in \(H^3\) asymptotic at infinity to a given curve in \(\partial_\infty H^3\), see [\textit{M. T. Anderson}, Comment. Math. Helv. 58, 264--290 (1983; Zbl 0549.53058)]. From Anderson's results it is known that for every Jordan curve \(\Gamma\subset \partial_\infty H^3\) there exists a minimal embedded disc \(F^2\subset H^3\) whose boundary at infinity coincides with \(\Gamma\). The uniqueness doesn't hold in general, for counterexamples see also [\textit{Z. Huang} and \textit{B. Wang}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 367, No. 9, 6063--6083 (2015; Zbl 1322.53013)]. On the other hand, it is claimed that if the principal curvatures \(\lambda\), \(-\lambda\) of \(F\) satisfy \(\| \lambda\|_{\infty}\in (-1,1)\), then \(F\) is the unique minimal disc with \(\partial_\infty F = \Gamma\), moreover \(\Gamma\) is a quasicircle. Supposing that \(\Gamma\) is a quasicircle in \(\partial_\infty H^3\), the author investigates how the supremum of principal curvatures of \(F\) is related to the norm of \(\Gamma\), in the sense of the universal Teichmüller space. The main result is the following: Theorem. There exist universal constants \(K_0>1\) and \(C>0\) such that every minimal embedded disc \(F\) in \(H^3\), whose boundary at infinity is a \(K\)-quasicircle \(\Gamma\subset \partial_\infty H^3\) with \(1\leq K\leq K_0\), has principal curvatures bounded by \[ \| \lambda\|_{\infty} \leq C \log K. \] Corollary. There exists a universal constant \(K_0^*\) such that every \(K\)-quasicircle \(\Gamma\subset \partial_\infty H^3\) with \(K\leq K_0^*\) is the boundary at infinity of a unique minimal embedded disc in \(H^3\). Some applications to quasi-Fuchsian manifolds are discussed too. For instance, it is proved that if the Teichmüller distance between the conformal metrics at infinity of a quasi-Fuchsian manifold \(M\) is smaller than a universal constant \(d\), then \(M\) is almost-Fuchsian.
