The long-time integration of constrained Hamiltonian systems is preferably achieved by the Rattle algorithm. This algorithm, although symmetric, symplectic and nearly Hamiltonian-preserving, is only of order two and hence not very efficient if high accuracy is required. In the present work it is proven that certain symmetric linear multistep methods share the qualitative properties of the Rattle algorithm but can achieve an arbitrary high order without exceeding the cost of the latter.
