Taubes currents were introduced by \textit{C. H. Taubes} in [J. Symplectic Geom. 9, No. 2, 161--250 (2011; Zbl 1232.57021)] in order to construct almost Kähler forms. Taubes, by smoothing a current, proved that given an almost complex structure tamed by a symplectic form on a 4-manifold with \(b^+=1\) there exists an almost Kähler form in \([\omega]\). The main result of this paper is a generalization of Taubes result to any almost complex structure on general 4-manifolds, precisely the main theorem is the following: ``For any four manifold \(M\), any almost complex structure \(J\) and a Taubes current \(T\), there exist almost Kähler forms \({\alpha}^{\epsilon}\) for any small \(\epsilon\), such that the cohomology class \([{\alpha}^{\epsilon}]\) is in a (\(b^+-{h}^-_J\) dimensional) \(\epsilon\) neighborhood of \([T]\in {H}^+_J(M)\).'' Moreover a similar result is obtained for higher-dimensional manifolds under almost Kähler assumption. Finally an applications to Donaldson's ``tamed to compatible'' question is obtained.
