Let \({\mathbb F}\) be a field and \(R={\mathbb F}[X_1,\ldots,X_n]\) be the polynomial ring, with \(\deg X_i=d_i\geq 1\) for \(1\leq i\leq n.\) Let \(M\) be a finitely generated graded \(R\)-module, whose Hilbert series is \(H_M.\) The depth of \(M\) is not encoded in its Hilbert series, so the Hilbert depth of \(M\) is defined and it is denoted by \(\text{Hdep}(M).\) The authors study \(\text{Hdep}(M)\) when \(R={\mathbb F}[X,Y]\) and \(\deg X\) and \(\deg Y\) are coprime. They find an arithmetic characterization of positive Hilbert depth, using the theory of numerical semigroups.
