The authors introduce a new extension of the concept of maximal monotone operators, namely, the concept of \((A,\eta)\)-monotone operators. Let \(X\) be a Hilbert space and fix a function \(\eta:X\times X\to X\) and a single-valued mapping \(A:X\to X\). A set valued map \(M:X\rightrightarrows X\) is said to be \((A,\eta)\)-monotone with \(m\) if \(M\) is \(m\)-relaxed \(\eta\)-monotone (i.e., if \(\langle u-v,\eta(x-y) \rangle\geq -m\| x-y\| ^2\) \(\forall\,(x,u),(y,v)\in \text{Graph}(M)\)) and \((A+\rho M)(X)=X\) for every \(\rho>0\). This definition extends the known concepts of \(A\)-monotone operators (which are recovered for the choice of \(\eta(x,y)=x-y\)) and \((H,\eta)\)-monotone operators (which are recovered choosing \(m=0\) and \(\eta(x,y)=x-y\)). The authors study properties of the resolvent operators associated with \((A,\eta)\)-monotone operators. They define a new class of systems of \((A,\eta)\)-monotone inclusions in Hilbert spaces. By using resolvent operator techniques, the authors prove convergence of an iterative method to a solution of such a system.
