On the simplification of the coefficients of a parametrization (Q2377958)

Given a rational parametrization of a variety with coefficients in a field, can we find another parametrization of the same variety with coefficients in some smaller field? For the case of curves and fields of complex and real numbers, the answer, given in \textit{T. Recio} and \textit{J. R. Sendra} [J. Symb. Comput. 23, No. 2--3, 241--254 (1997; Zbl 0877.68115)], is simple and nice: one can reduce it to the rational parametrization of a real circle in the complex plane. Related results can be found in \textit{C. Andradas, T. Recio} and \textit{J. R. Sendra} [in: Proc. ISSAC 1997, 349--355 (1997; Zbl 0918.14023) and in: Proc. ISSAC 1999, 17--22 (1999; Zbl 0992.68241)]. This paper is an inspiring attempt to come up with a general theory generalizing these results, motivated by the hope that it could be used to solve the reparametrization problem algorithmically.
