On the influence of numerical integration on mixed finite element approximations of a Maxwell eigenvalue problem (Q2378269)

The author considers a Maxwell eigenvalue problem (EVP) and rewrite the corresponding variational problem in a mixed formulation as it arises with a view to the application of a finite element method. Since the integrals occurring in this mixed formulation often cannot be evaluated exactly for the modeling of realistic problems, the author extends known theoretical convergence results in order to include the use of numerical quadrature and proves convergence to the approximations using exact integration. The obtained theoretical results are then tested by a couple of numerical examples.
