The authors study the space \(\mathbb R^{(3)}\) of at most three element nonempty subsets of \(\mathbb R\) endowed with the Hausdorff metric, which is known to be homeomorphic to the 3-dimensional Euclidean space \(\mathbb R^3\). It is shown that \(\mathbb R^{(3)}\) is actually \((3+4\pi)\)-bi-Lipschitz equivalent to \(\mathbb R^3\). It is also shown that the isometries of \(\mathbb R^3\) are induced by isometries of \(\mathbb R\); namely, for each isometry \(F:\mathbb R^{(3)}\to \mathbb R^{(3)}\) there is an isometry \(f:\mathbb R\to\mathbb R\) such that \(F(A)=\{f(r),f(s),f(t)\}\) for each \(A=\{r,s,t\}\).
