    This paper starts with fractal interpolation functions based on univariate natural cubic splines, which are then used to construct surfaces by tensor products and Boolean sums. The convergence of these methods is also considered. Reviewer's remark: It should be noted that the error bound (2.15) quoted from \textit{C. A. Hall} and \textit{W. W. Meyer} [J. Approx. Theory 16, 105--122 (1976; Zbl 0316.41007)] actually does not apply to natural cubic spline interpolation as claimed by Proposition 2.3 of the present paper.
