The computation of the focal values of an equilibrium point has important significance in the investigation of stability of a dynamical system. In this paper, the authors generalize the complex formulae for the computation of Lyapunov values of an equilibrium point of a planar polynomial system with a pair of purely imaginary eigenvalues. By using the symbolic computing software MAPLE, they apply the complex formulae to investigate the van der Pol equation and a cubic planar polynomial system. They find that the former system possesses a fine focus and a limit cycle. For the second system, the first five Lyapunov values are computed and are in agreement with those in the literature.
