The concept of level set of a fuzzy set, of an interval-valued fuzzy set and of an intuitionistic fuzzy set is discussed and well illustrated by suitable examples. A new form of Zadeh's extension principle for an intuitionistic fuzzy set is introduced, cf. [\textit{L. Atanassova}, ``On intuitionistic fuzzy versions of L. Zadeh's extension principle'', Notes Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets 13, No.~3, 33--36 (2007), ``On interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy versions of L. Zadeh's extension principle'', Iss. Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets Gen. Nets 7, 13--19 (2008)].
