Let \(H\) be a separable infinite-dimensional complex Hilbert space and let \(L(H)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on \(H\). The spectral radius algebra of \(T\in L(H)\) is \(B_T=\{ S\in L(H):\sup_m \| R_m S R_{m}^{-1}\| <\infty \}\), where \(R_m=\bigl( \sum_{n=0}^{\infty}(1/m+r(T))^{-2n}(T^*)^nT^n\bigr)^{1/2}\) and \(r(T)\) denotes the spectral radius of \(T\). These algebras were introduced by \textit{A.\,Lambert} and \textit{S.\,Petrović} [J.~Funct.\ Anal.\ 219, 93--108 (2005; Zbl 1061.47018)]. The spectral radius algebra of \(T\) contains the commutant of \(T\) and might be strictly larger. Thus, every subspace of \(H\) which is invariant for \(B_T\) is hyperinvariant for \(T\) and this is the main reason to study these algebras. Spectral radius algebras of some classes of operators have already been considered by, for instance, \textit{A.\,Biswas}, \textit{A.\,Lambert} and \textit{S.\,Petrović} [Indiana Univ.\ Math.\ J.\ 56, 1661--1674 (2007; Zbl 1135.47006)] and \textit{S.\,Petrović} [Proc.\ Am.\ Math.\ Soc.\ 136, 4283--4288 (2008; Zbl 1156.47007)]. In the paper under review, spectral radius algebras of quadratic operators are studied. One of the main theorems says that \(B_T\) has a nontrivial invariant subspace and \(B_T \neq \{ T\}'\) if \(T^2=\alpha T\) and \(T\) is not a scalar multiple of the identity operator. For an idempotent, \(T\), more can be said: \(B_T=\{ S\in L(H): \operatorname{ker} T \in \operatorname{Lat} S\}\).
