The toric ideal of a matroid of rank 3 is generated by quadrics (Q2380460)

Summary: \textit{N. White} [``A unique exchange property for bases,'' Linear Algebra Appl. 31, 81--91 (1980; Zbl 0458.05022)] conjectured that the toric ideal associated with the basis of a matroid is generated by quadrics corresponding to symmetric exchanges. We present a combinatorial proof of White's conjecture for matroids of rank 3 by using a lemma proposed by \textit{J. Blasiak} [``The toric ideal of a graphic matroid is generated by quadrics,'' Combinatorica 28, No.\,3, 283--297 (2008; Zbl 1212.05030)].
