A bounded linear operator \(T\) on a complex Hilbert space is said to belong to class \(A\) if \(| T| ^2\leq| T^2| \). In [Math. Inequal. Appl. 4, No. 1, 143--150 (2001; Zbl 0985.47012)], \textit{A. Uchiyama} showed that Weyl's theorem holds for class \(A\) operators under a certain condition and proved that every class \(A\) operator whose Weyl spectrum equals \(\{0\}\) is always compact and normal. In the paper under review, the author shows that Uchiyama's results remain valid with no extra condition. He proves that if \(T\) is an algebraically class \(A\) operator, then \(f(T)\) obeys Weyl's theorem for all analytic functions \(f\) in a neighborhood of \(\sigma(T)\), the spectrum of \(T\), and recaptures the second cited result of Uchiyama. The reviewer would like to point out that every class \(A\) operator is paranormal, as was shown in [\textit{T. Furuta}, \textit{K. Itô} and \textit{T. Yamazaki}, Sci. Math. 1, No. 3, 389--403 (1998; Zbl 0936.47009)], and that if \(T\) is an algebraically paranormal operator and \(f\) is an analytic function in a neighborhood of \(\sigma(T)\), then Weyl's theorem holds for \(f(T)\); see [\textit{R. E. Curto} and \textit{Y. M. Han}, Integral Equations Oper. Theory 47, No. 3, 307--314 (2003; Zbl 1054.47018)], which thus includes the present paper's main result.
