The main result says that every family \(\mathcal A\) of subsets of a Suslin subset \(X\) of a complete metric space has a \(\sigma\)-discrete refinement whenever \(\bigcup\mathcal A'\) is \(G_{\delta}\) for every countable \(\mathcal A'\subset\mathcal A\). This is a result which complements in a sense a former result of \textit{R. W. Hansell} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 96, 365-371 (1986; Zbl 0584.54035)] for point-countable \(F_{\sigma}\)-additive families. An application to a selection theorem is given. The author together with Zelený proved recently an analogical result for point-countable \(F_{\sigma\delta}\)-additive families (to appear in Canad. Math. Bull.).
