The geometry Nil is one of 8 homogeneous simply connected Riemannian 3-spaces, i.e., 8 Thurston geometries. The Nil geometry can be derived from W.~Heisenberg's real \(3 \times 3\) matrix group. \textit{E.~Molnár} [Beitr. Algebra Geom. 38, No.~2, 261--288 (1997; Zbl 0889.51021)] proved that all 8 geometries have a unified projective interpretation. The projective model of the Nil geometry is used in the paper under review. In the Nil space the geodesic balls are investigated. The notions of the Nil lattice and Nil parallelepiped are introduced. The densest lattice-like geodesic ball packing is found, its density is calculated.
