The authors study local cohomology of finitely generated bigraded modules over a standard bigraded ring with respect to the irrelevant bigraded ideals. The main result of this paper is the following duality theorem: Let \(R\) be a standard bigraded \(K\)-algebra with irrelevant bigraded ideals \(P\) generated by all elements of degree \((1,0)\) and \(Q\) generated by all elements of degree \((0,1)\), and let \(M\) be a finitely generated bigraded \(R\)-module. Then there exists a convergent spectral sequence \[ E^2_{i,j}=H^{m-j}_P(H^i_{R_+}(M)^{\vee}) \Rightarrow H^{i+j-m}_Q(M)^{\vee} \] of bigraded \(R\)-modules, where \(m\) is the minimal number of homogeneous generators of \(P\) and \(R_+\) is the unique graded maximal ideal of \(R\). The paper under review includes several applications of this theorem to tameness questions for local cohomology, raised by \textit{M. P. Brodmann} and \textit{M. Hellus} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 172, No. 2--3, 165--182 (2002; Zbl 1011.13009)], and to bounds for Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity.
