The size of the coefficients of cyclotomic polynomials has been well-studied. Here the authors study the following generalization: suppose \(f(x)\in\mathbb{Z}[x]\) is a divisor of \(x^n-1\), so that \(f(x)\) is the product of the cyclotomic polynomials corresponding to some of the divisors of \(n\). For the largest coefficient \(B(n)\) in absolute value over all such divisors \(f(x)\) of \(x^n-1\), they obtain a fairly tight estimate for the maximal order of this function. It is proved that \[ \limsup_ {n\to\infty}\frac{\log\log B(n)}{\log n/\log\log n}=\log 3, \] thereby determining the maximal order of \(\log\log B(n)\).
