The authors derive equivalent conditions of \(\{ A^{-} B^{-}\} \subseteq\{(AB) ^{-}\}\) by a maximal rank method, where \(A^{-}\) denotes the \(g\)-inverse or \(\{ 1\} \)-inverse of \(A\). Then, they propose equivalent conditions for the forward order law of the \(g\)-inverse of the product of two matrices i.e. \(\{ A^{-}B^{-}\} \subseteq\{( AB) ^{-}\} \), by using the product induced singular value decomposition [cf. \textit{B. De Moor} and \textit{H. Zha}, Linear Algebra Appl. 147, 469--500 (1991; Zbl 0715.15006)].
