Let \(\Omega\) be a bounded domain with smooth boundary in \(\mathbb R^N\). The authors study the nonlinear elliptic problem \(-\Delta u=\lambda f(x,u)+\mu g(x,u)\) in \(\Omega\) under the Dirichlet boundary condition \(u=0\) on \(\partial\Omega\), where \(\lambda\) and \(\mu\) are positive parameters, while \(f\) and \(g\) are Carathéodory functions. The main abstract result of this paper establishes that, under some appropriate growth conditions on \(f\) and \(g\), there exists \(\lambda_0>0\) such that the above problem has at least one classical solution for any \(\lambda\geq\lambda_0\) and all \(| \mu | \) small enough. The proof is based on the method of sub- and super-solutions. A numerical algorithm to approximate the solution is also developed in the paper.
