    Let \(V_g\) denote the short--time Fourier transform, i.e. \[ V_gf(x, \omega):= \langle f, M_{\omega} T_xg \rangle := \int_{R^d} f(t) \overline{g(t-x)} e^{-2 \pi i \omega \cdot t}\,dt \quad (x, \omega \in R^d). \] The author approximates functions \(f\) by means of Riemannian sums \[ S_mf = m^{-2d} \sum_{k, n \in Z^d} V_g f(k/m, n/m) M_{m/n} T_{k/m} \gamma \] of the inverse short--time Fourier transform, and proves that \(\lim_{m \rightarrow \infty} S_mf = f\) in the norm of the modulation space \(M_{p,q}(R^d)\), whenever \(f \in M_{p,q}(R^d)\) (\(1 \leq p, q < \infty\)) and \(g, \gamma\) are in Feichtinger's algebra \(S_0(R^d)\). Note that \(M_{2,2}(R^d) = L_2(R^d)\) and \(M_{1,1}(R^d) = S_0(R^d)\). Applying some results of \textit{P. G. Casazza} and \textit{O. Christensen} [Proc. Am. Soc. 129, 145--154 (2000)], \textit{P. G. Casazza, O. Christensen} and \textit{A. J. E. M. Janssen} [J. Func. Anal. 180, 85--147 (2001; Zbl 0983.42023)], and \textit{H. G. Feichtinger} and \textit{A. J. E. M. Janssen} [Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 8, No.1, 104--112 (2000; Zbl 0944.42027)], he shows that this result cannot be extended to \(g, \gamma\in L_2(R^d)\). The author also proves that if \(g\) and \(\gamma\) are in the Wiener algebra \(W(C, \ell_1)(R^d)\) then \(S_mf\) converges to \(f\) in the Wiener amalgam norms \(W(L_p, L_q)(R^d)\) \((1 \leq p, q < \infty)\).
