The authors consider the two-dimensional Euler system for steady irrotational flows that may contain stagnation points, and extend it to unsteady flows. The technique of compensated compactness is applied for sonic-subsonic approximate solutions. Establishing compactness of the set of subsonic solutions needs only rough estimates. Then flows with sonic points may be considered as limits of subsonic solutions or approximate solutions.
